The employees of the IZF are equally involved in research work and the execution of industrial orders. Therefore conditional research is practical and provides permanent new ideas and advances from industry.

Moreover the narrow integration of the institute into the industry is a guaranty for the fact, that the results of research are obtained quickly and with good diffusion impact. They'll either be realized direct by the brickmakers or they are taken into account by the plant builders developments.

Besides the direct consultations to the industry, the IZF offer seminars with yearly changing themes. These seminars are used as an essential instrument of the technology transfer, because they are always visited by several hundred brick makers from Germany and the neighbouring countries.

The main focus of the activity of the IZF extend herself from the reconnaissance of clay pits, to the clay mining and the preparation, the proficiency testing of clays and additives, the shaping, the drying and burning up to questions of the reduction of emissions and emissioncontrols.

In addition to these activities there is also offered the optimization and measurement in terms of building-physics and the development of brick products.

This concerns both questions of constructive configurations as well as jobs for the optimization of buildings and components under static points of view as well as to the increase of the heat insulation and the protection against sound and fire.

The Brick and Tile Research Institute is recommended to German as well as to international customers as a competent technology centre for solving all quetions of the manufacturing and application of bricks.
